PTCL Appoints Zarrar Hasham Khan as Chairman

Islamabad, March 11, 2025–Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL)has announced the appointment of Zarrar Hasham Khan as its new chairman, replacing Azfar Manzoor. The company disclosed the development in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday. “We have to inform you that Zarrar Hasham Khan has been appointed as chairman with effect from March 10, 2025, in place of Azfar Manzoor,” stated the notice. Khan brings over two decades of experience in the technology and telecommunications sector. He was appointed as Secretary of theInformation Technologyand Telecom Division in September 2024. A graduate of the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute, Khan has further honed his expertise at globally recognized institutions, including Harvard Business School, Oxford University, London Business School, and the University of Warwick, where he earned an MBA. Professionally, Khan has held leadership roles at major telecom companies, including serving as Chief Technology Officer at Saudi Telecom Company (STC) in Kuwait. He played a key role in the deployment of one of the world’s largest 5G networks in 2019. In a separate notice, PTCL also announced that Mohamed Karim Bennis has ceased to be a director of the company. Despite reporting higher revenue and gross profit, PTCL registered a loss of Rs14.39 billion in 2024, compared to a loss of Rs16.73 billion in 2023. This translates to a loss per share (LPS) of Rs2.82 in 2024, compared to Rs3.28 in the previous year. Established on December 31, 1995, PTCL is a key player inPakistan’s telecommunicationindustry, providing domestic and international telephone services along with a range of communication facilities across the country. With Khan at the helm, industry experts anticipate strategic initiatives aimed at steering PTCL towards financial stability andtechnological advancement.
