LCE Partners with German Development Cooperation to Launch Women Leadership Programme in Textile Industry

Lahore, August 19, 2024– TheLUMS Centre for Entrepreneurship (LCE)has announced the launch of the Women Leadership Programme, a pioneering initiative aimed at empowering women in Pakistan’s textile industry. This strategic partnership with theGerman Development Cooperation, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, is set to enhance the leadership capabilities of women and significantly improve their career progression prospects within the sector. The Women Leadership Programme will introduce a series of targeted initiatives designed to support women at various stages of their careers in the textile industry. These include specialized skill development workshops, sensitization training sessions for employers to foster an inclusive work environment, and the creation of peer support groups to encourage collaborative growth and shared learning among participants. The programme aligns with LCE’s broader mission to promote inclusive growth by empowering women to lead, innovate, and drive change within their communities. By focusing on the textile industry—a key sector in Pakistan’s economy—the initiative aims to create pathways for women to rise to leadership positions, thereby transforming the industry’s landscape and contributing to its overall development. The partnership was formally inaugurated during an orientation meeting held at LCE, attended by representatives from GIZ, LCE, and LUMS. During the event, both organizations reaffirmed their commitment to the successful execution of the Women Leadership Programme and to making a lasting impact on the lives and careers of women in the textile industry. The Women Leadership Programme is expected to play a pivotal role in not only advancing the careers of women workers but also in setting a precedent for other industries to follow, thereby fostering a more equitable and dynamic workforce across Pakistan.
