HBL reinforces commitment to Sustainability with 2023 Impact Report

KARACHI:HBL, a leading financial institution and a part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and social impact by addressing critical global challenges, including climate change, financial inclusion, and poverty alleviation. The bank’s latestImpact & Sustainability Report 2023highlights significant strides in these areas, underscoring HBL’s pledge to achieveNet Zero emissions by 2030. In 2023, HBL achieved several key milestones, including the solarization of 235 premises, investingRs 36 billion in renewable energy projects, and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within its operations. The bank’s sustainability initiatives align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, making it a leader indriving sustainable development in Pakistan. Sultan Ali Allana, Chairman of HBL, emphasized thebank’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development. “For two decades, we have seized opportunities to promote sustainability and foster prosperity. Our focus on financial literacy and inclusion has enabled us to serve over36 million people, many of whom were previously unbanked,” he said. He also highlighted the increased contribution to theHBL Foundation (HBLF)from1% to 1.5% of profit after tax, enabling the Foundation to expand its support for healthcare, education, and community welfare. In 2023, HBL Foundation surpassedRs 3 billionin contributions, positively impacting nearly10 million livesacross Pakistan.
